Nutmace (Javitri)

Nutmeg and mace are plant products. Nutmeg is the shelled, dried seed of the plant Myristica fragrans, and mace is the dried net-like covering of the shell of the seed.

Mace is taken by mouth for diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach spasms and pain, and intestinal gas. It is also taken by mouth for treating cancer, kidney disease, increasing menstrual flow; causing a miscarriage, and as a hallucinogen.

Mace is applied to the skin to kill pain, especially pain caused by achy joints (rheumatism).

In foods, mace is used as a spice and flavoring.

Javitri is a crimson red colored thread like material that envelops the nutmeg. It is spicy in taste, somewhat like a combination of pepper and cinnamon, with a strong aroma.

It is native to the Bandra islands of Indonesia.

It contains exceptionally high amount of minerals, copper and iron; providing 274% and 174% of the daily requirements of these minerals per 100gm.

With several vitamins like vitamin A, C, B1, B2 and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese and zinc also present in good amounts.

It has several essential volatile oils like safrole, myristicin, elemicin and eugenol and fixed oil trimyristine.
